Using Individual Turns Enables Teachers to Track and Respond to Student Mastery

How Using Individual Turns Enables Teachers to Track and Respond to Student Mastery

When teachers use individual turns effectively, they monitor that student’s mastery so they can achieve standard growth and potentially catch up. Individual turns give the teacher data to evaluate each student’s mastery.

How it Works

Using a system to track individual turns, the teacher is able to document and refer to student mastery data to evaluate each student’s progress and communicate any concerns about student mastery to the school leadership, colleagues and parents on the impact, learnings and recommendations.

The data is used to monitor mastery levels of individual students as well as the group. The group is at mastery when they achieve one hundred per cent accuracy on individual turns. If errors are made, they are corrected and the student who missed the item is given another opportunity to answer correctly.
