The Teacher does not Invite Parents into the Classroom

The principal is encouraging teachers to start scheduling classroom visits next month. During this time, parents will get to see their child learn, examples of work, and the recent data.

Craig is a new teacher. His recent data wall is rather discouraging. His students have not done well on the recent reading phonics and comprehension assessments. He feels like he failed his students. Craig decides to not to invite parents into the classroom, but only schedule visits if parents approach him. Instead, he fills his time thinking about how he can improve students’ mastery in the skills. Because he has decided not to engage with parents, they are not having discussions on the students’ learning and they do not know how the school team is supporting their children.
