The Student Feels Unmotivated
Johnny has been working hard for the past few weeks to improve his reading. His teacher has displayed the reading comprehension scores on the data wall and has even graphed them to make it easy to show growth. Johnny is proud of his improvement and his relentless effort. His parents are meeting with his teacher to discuss Johnny and his academics. He is excited for his parents to see his name on the wall with the data graph steadily increasing.
Johnny’s parents meet with the Teacher, Hannah. Hannah discusses Johnny’s current grades, behaviour and upcoming events in the classroom. Hannah fails to share the recent data wall with Johnny’s parents. Since Johnny’s parents did not know about his dedication to improving his reading comprehension or get to see his growth, they did not give Johnny the validity he needed. Johnny starts to withdrawal from engagement during reading time.
