Students Are Unprepared and Cannot Participate Fully in the Lesson
Christine November 29, 2023

Students Are Unprepared and Cannot Participate Fully in the Lesson
To participate fully in any lesson, students must have the required materials. Sharing resources with other students is not best practice and affects students’ ability to participate in all aspects of the lesson and focus on their learning.

The Problem is Compounded
Without the required materials students are unable to engage in the lesson. Students who do not have access to the materials specified in the program, like whiteboards, markers, workbooks and reading books cannot complete the activities in the lesson as they were designed.
When materials are misplaced, students’ focus is on locating misplaced materials instead of on their learning. This may lead to students feeling anxious and uncertain or distracted. Sharing materials or working in groups can lead to inappropriate behaviours and is counterproductive.
