Corrections and repeat until firm

Correct errors in CMC using model, test.

Add steps when the error occurs in a bracketed sequence and/or the words ‘repeat until firm’ are written. If students make an error or do not respond well to the bracketed section, repeat the steps until all students are firm.

The process is:

  • The teacher models the correct answer.
  • The teacher repeats the task the students missed.
  • The teacher returns to the beginning of the specified step and repeats the entire step.

Model

21 – 4 =17

Test

Say the fact that starts with 21 and minuses 4.

Auditory signal

21 – 4 =17

Turn to page 48 in CMC E Teacher’s Guide. Practise teaching exercise 1, exercise 5, left column only with no student errors and in the bracketed section.
