What Happens When a Classroom is not Set Up for Easy Monitoring?
Teacher, Sasha, wants to make her classroom as friendly to her students as possible. She decides to have her students set up the classroom with her. They discuss where the furniture should go, students get to pick where they will sit for whole class instruction and when they are in the reading, language and maths groups. When it comes to moving into pair-share activities students once again get to pick who they are paired with.

Sasha finds that students are not always paying attention to the lessons, or are displaying inappropriate behaviours. She finds there is not enough room to move around all the desks and other furniture to get closer to all students. Sasha finds that she spends a good amount of time directing students instead of focusing on teaching.
