Allows the Teacher to Check for Mastery to Inform Teaching Decisions
Engagement techniques provide the teacher with continuous feedback about student mastery. They are highly efficient ways to identify when students are not firm. Teachers are then able to make informed decisions about their teaching.

When teachers use engagement techniques effectively, they monitor that student’s mastery so they can achieve standard growth and potentially catch up. Engagement techniques gives the teacher data to evaluate each students’ understanding and make informed decisions about their teaching.
Teachers use engagement techniques throughout the lesson. They monitor mastery of each exercise using engagement techniques like whiteboards, pair-share and pick a non-volunteer. If students are not able to respond correctly, this is a cue for the teacher to reteach or firm students up on that exercise.
During the delivery of every lesson, teachers constantly check if students have mastered the lesson content, so they know whether they can progress to the next exercise or lesson in the knowledge that students have a firm understanding of the lesson content.
