Correcting Independent Work with Workchecks

Students take out checking pens, put away pencils and erasers.
Individual students take turns reading a question and the answer (or the teacher may do this).
Provide visual answers whenever appropriate.

Move at a quick pace that students can keep up with.
Students mark incorrect items with an ‘x’ and correct items with a tick.
After all items are marked, students fix up any items they missed with their checking pen.
It is acceptable to conduct the workcheck from the previous day at the beginning of the next scheduled class.
The workchecks and fixups must be done before beginning the next lesson.
Provide additional verbal or written delayed tests on commonly missed items.
The Teacher Presentation Book or Teaching Guide tells whether to do workchecks or teacher checks.
Workchecks allow students to get immediate feedback, which leads them to be more diligent.
Students who correct their own work can ask questions to clarify misunderstandings.
