The Teacher Tracks and Responds to Student Mastery
Teacher Matt is monitoring his students during language independent work and sees that most of his students are not correctly completing the deductions exercise. Matt stops his group and reteaches deductions until they are firm. Matt continues to monitor as students redo and complete their work with deductions to see if they are mastering that exercise. Matt observes that stopping the group and reteaching was the right call to make as now students are mastering the exercise. Matt also decides to do a warm-up activity before the next language lesson to continue to firm deductions. Matt is tracking and responding to his students’ mastery of each exercise during independent work.
