Not Assigning or Monitoring Independent Work

Teacher Talun has taught a writing lesson, which they need to reteach parts of to firm students. It has taken most of the period. They decide not to assign the independent work, instead choosing to go through the work with their students. They call on individual students to answer each question or read the sentence that would have been rewritten. Talun is not learning if all students are mastering the content of the lesson. They are only finding out about the student who is answering, not the whole group, as every student does not get a turn. Talun does not get much information about how students are mastering the content nor do students get feedback on how they are doing.
