Body systems

In Comprehension B2, students learn the parts of the nervous system including the brain, nerves and spinal cord. They also learn the difference between the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system.

The process:

  • Say, ‘Everybody, name the body system of bones.’ (Signal.)
  • Repeat this step for digestive system, muscular system, circulatory system and respiratory system. Repeat until firm.
  • Say, ‘The next system you’ll learn about is the nervous system. What system?’ (Signal.)
  • Say, ‘The nervous system is made up of nerves. What is the nervous system made up of?’ (Signal.)
  • Say, ‘The picture in Part B shows the nervous system. Some of the parts are labelled.’
  • Say, ‘Touch the word brain.’ Scan students.
  • Say, ‘The brain is the organ that lets you think and feel.’
  • Repeat these two steps for spinal cord and nerves.
  • Say, ‘Name the organ that lets you think and feel. Get ready. (Signal.)
  • Say, ‘Name the body part that connects the brain to all parts of the body. Get ready.’ (Signal.)
  • Say, ‘Name the wires in the body that carry messages. Get ready.’ (Signal.)
    Repeat until firm.
  • Correct errors with model-test-retest.
