Teacher Lucas is teaching a physics lesson. He asks students to ‘Track with me.’ He reads the rule: ‘Electrical energy moves freely through a conductor and is blocked from moving through an insulator.’ He asks a question and students write their independent answer in their workbooks. Lucas picks a non-volunteer to check for understanding. His students are not remembering the rule. Lucas works with his students to come up with a series of gestures that conveys the meaning of the rule to help them remember it. Lucas demonstrates the gesture along with the verbal rule, explaining what the gesture means. He repeats the gesture until students are firm. He continues with the next question.
