Teacher Andrew is teaching his Year 2 science lesson on how humans use machines to move resources around the world. Andrew explains the different types of machinery used. He projects the information on the whiteboard and provides images to support students’ understanding. The students listen to the instruction but are not asked to contribute, pronounce and define unfamiliar words, or read with him. It is not until late in the lesson that students are asked to identify different machinery and their uses. When Andrew reviews student work, it’s clear that not all students are able to answer the questions correctly.
