Students do not Build Self-Confidence
Teacher Steph is teaching a reading lesson. She knows that students may be unfamiliar with some of the vocabulary, so decides to read the first half of the story to the students before asking individual students to read aloud. The students listen to Steph read the story but when called on individually to read, they hesitate and are unable to read the sentences fluently. They struggle to pronounce some of the words and read without expression as they are focused on trying to get the words right. They do not understand the meaning of what they have read. As a result, they begin to lose confidence in their learning capabilities.
