Irregular words

Words in these lists are generally irregular words, but any word or word type may appear in these random lists. Some of the words are underlined.

Students spell only the underlined word.
Turn to page 15 in Decoding B2 Teacher’s Guide. Practise teaching lesson 3, exercise 6 with or without student error correction.

The process is:

  • Say, ‘That word is studied. What word?’ and signal.
  • Say, ‘Spell studied’, and signal for each letter.
  • Ask, ‘What word?’ and signal.
  • Repeat steps with remaining underlined words.
  • Say, ‘Next word, what word?’ and signal. Repeat for each remaining word.
  • Go back to the beginning. Students read all the words again. They do not spell the underlined words this time.
