Students do not Meet Criterion on Mastery Tests

Students do not Meet Criterion on Mastery Tests
The full correction procedure is a powerful effective teaching tool. When teachers do not use this procedure in each lesson, they are not remediating student errors or re-teaching parts of the exercise that students did not master. They are not effectively teaching or preparing students for mastery tests.

The Problem is Compounded
When teachers do not follow the full correction procedure, they are not setting students up for success on mastery tests. Failure to remediate errors, to model and lead students as they practise correct responses and to test for understanding, results in the teacher being unable to ensure that all students have mastery of the lesson content. When students sit mastery tests or checkouts, they do not meet the criterion. The teacher must then re-teach the content and skills that the students have not mastered. Progress is stalled.
