Principal Hosts Meeting to Assess School Context
Principal, Theodore, hosts a community meeting with parents, team members of the school and local community members. He stands at the front and leads the topics of discussions. He asks the question, ‘How can we improve student outcomes?’

The team members, parents and community members form small groups. Each group contains a mixture of all three. Theodore walks around to facilitate the meeting and make sure all representations are contributing. The family dynamics are discussed. One family member voices her concerns that the content her child is learning is too hard for her to help. Another parent states that he is not home after school to be able to help.
Principal, Theodore, asks all to reconvene back to one group. Since the main issue was parents are not home or they do not understand the content to help their child, many resolutions were suggested. The option of after school homework help would be offered to the students. Parents, teachers or other community members could volunteer and offer to teach if they felt comfortable in the subject area. Over the next two weeks, the principal would send out a volunteer form and organise the helpers per subject and grade level.
Theodore has been managing the implementation of the free homework help program, which has been a success. Not only is it steadily growing each day, but they have recruited more volunteers than needed. Student growth has been evident in the classroom through the daily checkouts.
