RMSE-LA 4-5 marking papers

The teacher marks students’ paper after they hand in their revised and edited papers.

The comments the teacher writes on the paper should help students learn and reinforce good practices.

Codes used to signal mistakes are:

– imrpoper wording

UC – unclear

– what the students wrote is clearly inaccurate

OM – important material was omitted.

– punctuation error.

Comments

When writing comments:

1. Correct improper improper grammar by writing the correct words above the incorrect ones.

2. Do not penalise students for all spelling mistakes. A rule that the teacher follows is that students are accountable for any spelling words they should know, words in the fact tables or words in the instructions. Write S or P above words that are misspelled.

3. Use letter grades or just comments. The comments should focus on improvement even if a paper has a serious problems.

4. The papers should be returned before the next language lesson.
