Behaviour Management and Effective Teaching

A school-wide model of behaviour management enables common practices. It allows school staff to participate in professional collegial support to increase their skills in behaviour management techniques. Teachers and teaching assistants need behaviour management skills.

They enable the teaching team to ensure the following:

  • Manage: ‘Minute-by-minute’ student-teacher interactions during instruction.
  • Maintain: Students’ attention on academic tasks during instruction.
  • Adjust: Instruction based on student responses.
  • Ensure: First-time correct choral responses.
  • Reinforce: Expected behaviours.
  • Limit: The impact of undesired behaviour.
