Using the 8 Cycles of School Practice as

a School Leader

For school leaders, the cycles drive instructional leadership and culture. Both principal and instruction coach place their highest priority on supporting effective teaching through the 8 Cycles of School Practice.

The instruction coach supports the principal in the delivery of practices in the school domain. The coach ensures the whole teaching team is equipped with the skills, knowledge and experience to deliver effective teaching.

The instruction coach succeeds in supporting the principal and the cycles when they demonstrate that instruction is always being monitored and improved. To do this, they spend time each day:

  • observing classroom instruction
  • reviewing data
  • making instructional decisions
  • providing feedback to teachers and teaching assistants.
