Overview
Coach Positive High Expectations is a professional learning module for school coaches. Upon completion of this module, participants will understand the roles and responsibilities of the school coach in promoting the practices and decision-making procedures that shape a school’s positive high-expectations culture. They will learn how to support the Behaviour Management Team and effectively apply the standard coaching model to the school’s behaviour management plan as well as work in partnership with colleagues, parents, families and the wider school community to improve effective teaching and student engagement.
Learning intents
- Embed collaborative practices in the school, allowing everyone to contribute to improvement. [MTP.2.3.06]
- Reinforce to leaders and teaching faculty the need for change and for a high expectations culture and no excuses approach. [MTP2.2.01]
- Lead colleagues to implement cycles of practice that support their effective teaching organisational and professional responsibilities. [MTP2.3.14]
- Promote a culture of professional learning to leaders and teaching faculty and ensure their efforts to improve are recognised. [MTP2.1.03]
- Participate with colleagues in professional conversations to improve teaching. [MTP2.1.07]
- Plan training and coaching sessions to ensure all the school team is supported to deliver effective teaching. [MTP2.2.05]
- Maintain fidelity over classroom observations, demonstrations, modelling, coaching and feedback on effective teaching. [MTP2.2.06]
- Ensure that reflective practices, structured feedback, peer review and use of the teaching standards lead to personal improvement of the teaching faculty. [MTP2.3.06]
- Establish methods for collecting and interpreting evidence to identify excellent teaching and learning and share successful strategies. [MTP2.3.02]
- Use technology to record, analyses and share information, to monitor improvement against goals. [MTP2.2.10]
- Work with other agencies to support the health, wellbeing and safety of students [MTP2.4.03]
- Oversee the technical delivery of effective teaching including the placement of all students in their correct levels and programs [MTP2.2.02]
- Participate in community networks to educate the community on student learning and welfare needs. [MTP2.1.16]
- Draw on national/international best practices to help embed a culture of inclusion of families into school and classroom life. [MTP2.4.11]
- Promote parent engagement to teaching faculty as a key aspect of improving student outcomes. [MTP2.3.01]
- Work with teachers to develop teaching aids and tools to use with families to communicate their child’s progress. [MTP2.4.14]
- Understand the strengths of their community and harness this to drive improvement. [MTP2.4.04]

Assessments
- Test: Knowledge and skills taught in the lessons

Certifications
Participants are eligible for certification based on attendance and completion of assessment requirements for each module.
