Mixed Counting

The Mixed Counting track begins with counting backward with two-digit numbers begins in lesson sixteen.

The process is:

  • Students count backward from seven to one.
  • The teacher models counting backward from thirty-seven to thirty-one.
  • Students count backward from thirty-seven.
  • The teacher stresses the one’s digit when modelling the counting: thirty-seven, thirty-six.
  • In later lessons, students count series that go from one decade to the one that precedes it.

For example, counting backward from forty-two to thirty-eight.
