Oz-e-Maths Mastery Test Procedure

The teacher administers the Oz-e-Maths mastery test at the end of each Oz-e-Maths lesson. They are used to assess the skills and concepts taught in the Oz-e-Maths lessons only. These tests are designed to:

  • Capture evidence of student mastery of the skills and concepts taught in the lesson.
  • Identify the skills and concepts that require revision via the remediation exercises listed in the Teacher Guide.

Student success is ascertained by:

  • students achieving Mastery of the skills and concepts delivered in ‘Oz-e-Maths’ lessons.
  • improvement on current ‘NAPLAN’ Numeracy results.

The procedure for administering mastery is:

  • The Mastery Test takes approximately fifteen minutes. The teacher reads out the questions from the script and students complete their answers on the Mastery Test handout.
  • The teacher corrects student work using the Answer Key and identifies gaps in students’ understanding.
  • Students are referred to the remediation exercises for each part of the ‘Mastery Test’ and retaught the concept or skill if necessary.
  • Students’ results are calculated using the CMC Mastery Test administered that week to determine an overall percentage. Seventy-five percent of the students need to achieve mastery for the group to progress through their lessons.
