Script Features

Presentation books are divided into lessons. The lesson number is in the upper left corner of each page. The last page of the lesson has the words ‘End of lesson’ at the bottom of the page.

In each lesson, the track titles are in boldface capitals. Track titles tell the skill to be taught in the next tasks.

  • What the teacher says is in ‘purple’ type.
  • What the teacher does is in ‘black’ type and round brackets.
  • The oral response expected from students is in italics.
  • Exercises that have the ‘REMEDY’ label are taught during the lesson and used as a remedy after the Mastery Test if students do not pass certain sections of the test.
  • The script includes brackets in exercise steps, highlighting crucial elements for student understanding. If errors occur within these bracketed steps, the teacher corrects immediately, tests the students, completes the remaining bracketed task and then revisits the bracket to repeat all steps correctly before progressing. ‘Repeat until firm’ typically concludes the bracket.

The use of scripted lessons promotes consistency in instruction, which can lead to more effective learning outcomes for students. Teaching is efficient and less wordy when the teacher follows the lesson script.
