Timed fact practice

Starting in lesson four, students do timed fact practice. The initial time limit is 4.5 seconds per fact.

The time limit drops as the program progresses. At the end of the program the time limit is 4 seconds per fact.

The process

The process is:

  • Say, ‘Find part 4 in your workbook’ and scan. ‘Problem A: 6 plus 6. What’s the answer?’ and signal.
  • Repeat the process for the next four problems.
  • Say, ‘Write the answers to all the problems. You have 90 seconds. Raise your hand when you’re finished.’ Observe students and give feedback. If students have not finished after 90 seconds, say, ‘Stop.’

Turn to page 46 in CMC D Teacher’s Guide. Practise teaching lesson 12, exercise 5, with no student errors. Read exercises, information and teaching notes.
