Fraction comparison

Fraction comparison runs intermittently from lesson sixty-eight to 118.

Using mental maths, students convert unit fractions into equivalent fractions with larger denominators. They apply the strategy to determine how many times greater the denominator is than the numerator. They use this relationship to generate equivalent fractions.

Lesson 70
From lesson seventy, students complete equivalent fractions by applying information about the relationship of numerator and denominator.

Lesson 79
From lesson seventy-nine, some of the fraction pairs have the fraction with the larger denominator on the left. Students follow the same process they applied to fraction pairs in the other order.

Lesson 113
In lesson 113, students begin work where neither fraction that they compare has a numerator of one. They rewrite the fraction that has the smaller denominator.

Lesson 116
In lesson 116, students work on the last variation of the fraction-comparison analysis, requiring rewriting both fractions.
