A general correction procedure

  • Any time a student makes an error, it must be corrected immediately. If errors are not corrected immediately, the error pattern may become habitual, which will be harder to correct later.
  • The basic correction procedure is consistent and has four main parts:

Model
(I do)

Tell the
students the
correct
answer.

Lead
(We do)

Say the
answer with
the students.

Test
(You do)

Have the
students
answer
without you.

Retest
(You do again)

Repeat the
part (often the
exercise or line/sentence).
