Pause and punch

The teacher performs the script with careful consideration given to keywords and phrases.

In some programs important words are bold, cueing the teacher to emphasise these words. In other programs, the teacher analyses the lesson before teaching, to determine keywords to emphasise during teaching.

The teacher emphasises keywords or phrases by using ‘pause and punch.’ Pause and punch refers to pausing briefly before an important word or phrase and verbally emphasising that word or phrase. Using pause and punch supports students in focusing on important words and concepts, leading to greater mastery.
