Placement tests overview

Each level of every Direct Instruction (DI) program has a specific placement test. Placement test results are used to form students into instructional groups by program.

Placement tests determine proper placement so material presented is neither too easy nor too difficult for students.

Students placed too low or too high are likely to exhibit behaviour issues. When given work that is too easy, students get bored or feel it is beneath them and shut down. When confronted with work that is too challenging, students become frustrated and misbehave.

Students who are appropriately placed are able to complete a lesson within the allotted time.
