Evidence corrections

Errors can occur in three places.

The first error

If students are unable to say the facts in step 2:

  • Model the fact, noting which fact it is. Say, ‘Here’s the second fact. When hot air rises, it cools off.’
  • Test. Say the second fact.
  • Retest. Repeat steps 1 and 2.

The second error

If students express the right idea but do not say the fact precisely, praise them for understanding the fact, then practise saying the fact precisely. For example, if students say, ‘It cooled off,’ do the following:

  • Praise: ‘That’s the right idea. But you didn’t say the fact.’
  • Model: ‘Here’s the fact. When hot air rises, it cools off.’
  • Test: Say the second fact.
  • Retest: Repeat the task.

The third error

If students answer with the wrong fact, use model-test-retest.

  • Model: ‘The answer is when hot air rises, it cools off.’
  • Test: Say that fact.
  • Retest: Repeat the task.
