Looping signal

Use the looping signal when students sound out words.

Say to students, ‘Sound it out’.

The process is:

  • Touch the dot of the arrow and say, ‘Sound it out’.
  • Give two seconds of think time.
  • Say, ‘Get ready’.
  • Pause one second after ‘Get ready’.
  • Loop and hold under the first sound, then loop and hold under each sound.
  • Move finger quickly off the arrow and return to the ball.
  • After students sound out a word, it is said the fast way using the slide signal.

Practise the looping signal with a partner.

Write the words in the exercise on paper to hold up for partner to see.
