Point-touch-slide

Using the point-touch signal when students read a word the ‘fast way’.

For example, ‘You’re going to read these words the fast way’.

How to point-touch-slide

The process is:

  • Point just over the dot of the arrow hold point for one to two seconds. This provides a focus for students.
  • Touch the dot and say the cue, ‘What word?’ or ‘Get ready’ depending on the script.
  • Pause one second after the cue.
  • Slide finger decisively along the arrow.
  • Return finger to the ball of the arrow and affirm student response, ‘yes, ________’.
  • As soon as the teacher’s finger slides, students are to respond.

Practice the point touch-touch-slide signal with a partner

Write the word in the exercise on paper to hold up for partner to see.
