About the School and Classroom Domains

The 8 Cycles of School Practice spans the following interconnected domains:   

  • The school domain is organised by leaders and includes school-wide practices. It is where principals and coaches operate as instructional leaders and embed strong practices that lead teaching across every classroom in the school.  
  • The classroom domain is situated within the school domain. It is organised by each teacher and includes classroom practices. It is the primary teaching and learning space. 

The domains have the following cycles of practice:

Cycle 1

School Professional Learning

Leaders and the teaching team build their skills and knowledge as outlined in the school’s annual Professional Learning Plan.

Cycle 3

 School Data Review

Leaders embed school-wide data collection, analysis and improvement practices as set out in the School Improvement Plan.

Cycle 5

School Professional Conversations

Leaders facilitate conversations among the teaching team to promote continuous improvement in teaching and behaviour.

Cycle 7

School Improvement Partnership

Leaders and teachers engage with families and communities to ensure all parties pursue high expectations and improvement.

Cycle 2

Classroom Coaching

The teaching team engages with leaders via classroom observations, demonstrations and sharing feedback on effective teaching. 

Cycle 4

Classroom Data Review

The teaching team and leaders collaboratively embed classroom routines for testing, analysing and improving student data. 

Cycle 6

Classroom Collaboration 

The teaching team collaborates across the school to share best practices through lesson practice and peer coaching.

Cycle 8

Parent Classroom Engagement

The teaching team engages parents in improving students’ academic progress, behaviour, attendance and readiness.
