The School Leaders and Community Engagement

In the zone of Community Engagement, the school leaders:

  • develop positive high expectations for the school and community
  • embed family and community engagement routines
  • host the School Improvement Forum with parents
  • develop the Community Compact with the community
  • plan and lead family engagement events for parents.

Introduction

At the beginning of term, Alicia (instruction coach) and Jerome (principal) draft and distribute the School Improvement Plan. They use the plan to create the School Improvement Report, which outlines the school’s actions and targets for the upcoming term. These documents guide the School Improvement Forum.

Review

The school leaders invite parents and the community to the forum, including local community leaders and organisations. Before the School Improvement Forum, Alicia and Jerome share a summary of the School Improvement Report with attendees so they can refer to specific targets and actions during the event.

Resolve

During the forum, the school leaders share the School Improvement Report with the community. Alicia and Jerome discuss the school’s strategies to improve its teaching and learning data and the community’s role in the school achieving its targets. The leaders encourage attendees to ask questions and share suggestions.

Reinspire

Following the School Improvement Forum, the school leaders update the commitments in the School Improvement Plan. Alicia and Jerome include community suggestions from the forum, such as partnerships with local organisations and weekly newsletters. The leaders upload the new information to the School Improvement Plan.
