The Teaching Team and Data-Driven Improvement

In the zone of Data Driven Improvement, the teaching team:

  • collects, analyses and actions teaching and learning data
  • uses the Weekly Data Review Report to improve student results
  • focuses on lessons taught and issues requiring remediation
  • creates and regularly updates Classroom Data Walls
  • conducts placement tests to track student results.

Introduction

Every week, Jeff (teacher) and Elizabeth (teaching assistant) discuss the Weekly Data Review Report to analyse their classroom’s progress towards its teaching and learning targets. They review the data in the report against the school-wide targets set at the beginning of the term. Jeff and Elizabeth use the data report to reflect on their techniques and practices, review student lesson progress and identify areas of improvement.

Review

During the meeting, Jeff and Elizabeth determine that students are not achieving their score targets in Oz-e-science. Elizabeth compares the report against the information on the Classroom Data Wall and acknowledges the trend. Jeff admits that he is unfamiliar with the lesson content, which impacts his delivery.

Resolve

Jeff and Elizabeth practise the lesson together that afternoon to improve Jeff’s delivery of the content. They go through the lesson script a few times, with Elizabeth providing prompts to Jeff as needed. They agree on shared cues to aid the lesson delivery to students the next day.

Reinspire

Following the practice session, Jeff improves his delivery of the lesson. Elizabeth notes the improvement in their students’ scores and progress in Oz-e Science on the Classroom Data Wall. Jeff and Elizabeth highlight this achievement and share exemplary samples of student work from the lesson on the wall.
