A Principal’s Commitment to Continuous Improvement

A Principal’s Commitment to Continuous Improvement

Step 1:
Principal, Maria, an advocate for continuous improvement, observes a concerning trend in the school’s data during the Weekly Data Review. Maths proficiency scores have stagnated in the last quarter, signalling a potential issue.

Step 2:
In response, Maria collaborates with the instruction coach, Fred. From observing classroom practices, Fred notices a gap in the implementation of a new maths strategy. Maria decides to organise a professional development session focused on the effective application of the strategy, emphasising the importance of consistency across all classrooms.

Step 4:
Recognising the success of the strategy implementation, Maria encourages teachers to share their experiences and challenges during monthly professional learning community meetings. Moreover, she celebrates the improvement in maths scores during a school assembly, fostering a culture of acknowledgment and encouragement.

Step 3:
Over the next few weeks, Maria and Fred monitor the impact of the strategy through regular classroom observations and data reviews. The maths proficiency scores show a gradual improvement. Maria also notes an increase in peer collegiality as teachers engage in professional conversations about refining their instructional methods.
