Scenario – Principal’s Community Engagement Initiative
ddewell@goodtogreatschools.org.au February 13, 2024

Scenario – Principal’s Community Engagement Initiative

Step 1: Principal, Tamsin, notices a growing disconnection between the school and the wider community. Attendance at parent-teacher meetings and community events has dwindled, impacting the school’s ability to effectively engage families and support students’ educational outcomes.

Step 2: Tamsin organizes a series of professional conversations among the teaching team to brainstorm strategies for enhancing community engagement. Together, they identify the need to build stronger relationships with parents and involve them more actively in the school’s initiatives.

Step 4: As a result of these efforts, the school experiences a significant increase in parent engagement. Tamsin celebrates the success of the initiative by organising family engagement events and involving parents in decision-making processes. The collaborative approach not only strengthens the school’s ties with the community but also creates a sense of mutual accountability and commitment towards students’ educational success.

Step 3: Over the following weeks, Tamsin implements a variety of initiatives to foster community involvement. She establishes professional peer networks to facilitate dialogue and information sharing between schools, fostering collaboration and best practice sharing.
