Encouraging Expected Behaviour

The teacher embeds school-wide values by applying them to the rules and routines in their classroom space.

Rules, routines, and expected behaviours are modelled and taught from the start of the school year and reviewed throughout the school year using the models for effective teaching:

  • First, the skill is modelled.
  • Second, the skill is practised.
  • Third, performance feedback is provided.
  • Fourth, the skill is reinforced for generalisation and maintenance.

Teachers consistently reinforce expected behaviours using the school values and positive language during every lesson of each school day.
