The School-wide Behaviour Management Model

In a positive high-expectations schools, the Behaviour Management Model creates a school environment that enables students and adults to be their best selves. This environment is:

  • positive
  • safe
  • predictable
  • consistent.

Positive high-expectations schools use evidence-based behaviour management practices to teach and reinforce behaviour alongside academic subjects.

The school-wide Behaviour Management Model embeds common behaviour management practices school-wide to ensure that student and school team interactions are consistent across all school settings.

Every school’s Behaviour Management Model is uniquely designed with evidence-based systems, programs and practices that

  • positively reinforce expected behaviours
  • prevent and respond to inappropriate behaviours
  • teach social-emotional and character skills
  • build positive connections between teachers, students, and their families.

Implementation of the school-wide model begins at the classroom level. When every member of school team integrates the programs, systems and practices of their school’s Behaviour Management Model, this increases the capacity for effective behaviour management and increases the positive climate across the school.
