An Orderly Physical Space

Teachers support high expectations for student behaviour by setting up their classroom space to prevent problem behaviour.

An orderly physical space:

  • increases predictability of transitions and other routines
  • improves the organisation of materials and their spaces
  • promotes a higher level of student engagement
  • provides the teacher with optimal opportunities for active supervision

The teacher arranges the classroom so they can teach effectively. Their classroom set-up supports the activities of the school day. This includes arranging for:

  • whole group teaching
  • small group teaching
  • independent work
  • other classroom activities.
