Get It Going and Count

In this format, students learn to ‘get a number going’ and then count from that number. Students use this skill to solve addition problems. Use the hand-drop signal.

The process is:

  • The teacher says, ‘You haaavve four. How many do you haaavvve?’ and signals (hand-drop).
  • The teacher says, ‘Get it going’ and signals (raises a hand for hand-drop signal).
  • The teacher drops their hand and counts with students: ‘5, 6, 7, 8, 9, stop.’
