Hand-drop Signal

The hand-drop signal is used when students are watching the teacher.

For example: The teacher says: ‘One, two, three, four. What number did I end up with? The students say: ‘Four.’

The process of hand-drop signal is:

  • Focus: Teacher has hand up in the ‘stop’ position when talking.
  • Think time: Teacher pauses for a couple of seconds giving the finishing direction.
  • Cue: ‘Get ready.’
  • Interval: Teacher pauses for one second.
  • Signal: Teacher rapidly drops hand. Students respond ‘Four’ when the teacher’s hand is down.
