Distar Arithmetic 1 Overview

Distar Arithmetic 1 is the first part of a two-level Direct Instruction Maths program.    

Distar Arithmetic 1 is the beginning Maths program for Prep students. It teaches the basic operations of addition, subtraction, simple story problems, greater than and less than, and the application of ordinal counting and simple story problems.

Distar Arithmetic 1 is organised into tracks, formats and tasks.

  • A track is a major skill.
  • A format is one step in a skill consisting of repeated teaching steps.  
  • A task is one of the teaching steps. 
  • A format is usually taught for three or more lessons before moving on.
