Scenario – Classroom Setup

Step 1: Teacher, Kylie, carefully observes her classroom environment at the beginning of the school year. She notices that during group activities, some students seem to struggle to focus, while others are easily distracted by movement in the classroom.

Step 2: Kylie decides to implement a strategic seating arrangement to address these issues. She assigns seats based on individual student needs and lesson context. Lower-performing students are seated closer to her desk for easy access and support, while higher-performing students are progressively seated farther away. She arranges the desks in a semicircle for small group instruction, ensuring students can easily interact with her and their peers.

Step 4: Reflecting on the success of her classroom setup, Kylie continues to refine her seating arrangements based on ongoing observations and student needs. She maintains a well-organised classroom environment that promotes active participation, focused learning experiences and optimal skill development for all her students. As a result, students progress at their own pace, with many achieving at or above their year level expectations.

Step 3: Over the next few weeks, Kylie monitors the impact of the new seating arrangement. She notices that students are more engaged during group activities, with fewer distractions and off-task behaviors. She can easily move around the classroom without obstruction, providing timely feedback and support to students as needed.
