Responsibility of School Leaders

In a positive high-expectations school:

The principal is the leader of the Behaviour Management Model.

The Principal:

  • Develops the whole-school behaviour management policy with input from the school team and community.
  • Inspires school-wide positive high-expectations across the school team.
  • Communicates the school vision, mission, values and behaviours with all stakeholders.
  • Reinforces positive high expectations with students, parents and the teaching team.

The coach provides guidance to the teaching team.

The Coach:

  • Coaches and provides feedback on behaviour management across the school.
  • Models school-wide expectations for teaching team.
  • Supports the principal by promoting the school vision, mission, values and behaviour.
  • Trains the teaching team in data collection and behaviour management techniques and practices.

Schools may have an instruction coach, a community coach, or both. Generally, the community coach has the responsibility of supporting positive high-expectations efforts. In schools where there is no community coach, the instruction coach takes on that role. In this lesson and module, the term ‘coach’ will refer to whichever of the two is supporting positive high-expectations.
