Builds a High Expectations Culture

in the School

When the instructional leaders schedule and facilitate time for the teaching team to observe delivery of effective teaching by a peer, it creates and environment where reflecting on one’s practice and committing to continuous improvement is not only normalised but an expectation. Research has shown that high expectations have a direct and significant impact on student motivation, as this is a precursor to actions affecting student achievement that are theorised to be influenced by teacher behaviour (Perry, Turner, & Meyer, 2006).

How it works

When teachers and teaching assistants are provided release time to observe delivery of one their peers delivering effective teaching, it promotes an open door policy where peers and instructional leaders are invitedĀ into the classroom. Teachers and teaching assistants feel comfortable and understand that observations and feedback are strategies used to improve professional practice and educational outcomes tor students.

Observation of a peer delivery of a lesson promotes lifelong learning and the pursuit of mastery and provides an excellent example for students to follow.
