Capacity is Not Built, and the Teaching

Team do Not Improve their Practice

Instruction coach Joanne is unable to effectively have members of the teaching team shadow her during classroom observations largely due to staff absences and shortages. Some teachers or teaching assistants have been absent on the day they have been scheduled to observe delivery and others have had their release time cancelled due to the leadership team’s inability to cover classes. She conducts them when she can, but they are sporadic. Based on student mastery data and classroom observations it is apparent that there is great discrepancy in the degree of mastery of effective teaching among the teaching team and that for many there has been little progress made in improving their professional practice as the data has remained the same.
