Administer Placement Tests

Program Module
Administer Placement Tests
Overview
In this module, participants will learn how to conduct and administer placement testing for Direct Instruction programs, enabling them to place students at the correct instructional level. The module covers testing processes across a range of DI programs, including Reading Mastery, Corrective Reading, Spelling Mastery, Connecting Math Concepts, Language for Learning and Essentials in Algebra. Placement testing ensures students begin instruction at the level where they can achieve consistent success, reinforcing the mastery-based approach of DI.
On completion, participants will understand how to administer, score and interpret placement tests, as well as how to use the results to create effective student groupings. The module includes demonstrations, guidelines for error scoring and decision-making protocols for placing students. Leaders and instructional coaches who have completed foundational DI modules will be equipped to support teachers and teaching assistants in delivering these programs effectively.
The module also emphasises the importance of collaboration between school leadership and teaching teams to implement placement testing, ensuring all students receive targeted support to optimise their learning outcomes.
