Scenario: Explicit Instructions for Students

Scenario: Explicit Instructions for Students

Step 1: Teacher Samuel takes time at the start of each term to teach students about the routines and expected behaviours in class.

Step 2: Samuel models for his students and has them practice the daily routines they will be using in class, such as how to transition between learning activities, how to turn in assignments, and how to enter and leave the classroom. He also instructs them on the corrective responses and consequences he uses, including non-verbal gestures.

Step 4: Students know what they are expected to do and how to behave. They are able to focus on their learning and meet their academic targets.

Step 3: Throughout the term, Samuel maintains his expectations for student behaviour, responding when students behave poorly and redirecting them back to their learning as they know he will.
