Step 1: The school has established a behaviour plan that identifies behaviours considered inappropriate. The school team has worked together to establish and agree upon this plan.
Step 2: Teacher Kayla is aware of the school’s behaviour plan, but she doesn’t always follow it. When she is feeling tired or overwhelmed, she ignores inappropriate behaviours or uses consequences that are not part of the school plan.
Step 3: Because of the inconsistency, Kayla’s students do not know what is expected of them in her classroom.
Step 4: Kayla’s students know that they are sometimes able to get away with inappropriate behaviours in her class, so they are more likely to behave poorly, interrupting the learning process.
